4 – 9 September 2016 | La Serena, ChileAbout the workshop
Understanding the molecular mechanisms underlying membrane trafficking pathways has provided crucial insights into several fundamental events including cell differentiation, motility and polarization, as well as numerous health related issues, such as cancer and neurodegeneration. The field of membrane trafficking combines classical cell biology with other disciplines (i.e. genetics and biophysics) and innovative and advanced techniques, to generate many breaking discoveries. It is therefore essential to keep pace with this fast moving and exciting research area. Major advances in these areas and other late-breaking discoveries will be covered at the EMBO Workshop.
The 2016 EMBO Workshop “Actualizations in membrane trafficking in health and disease” will cover recent advances in organelle biology and membrane transport, including endoplasmic reticulum to Golgi traffic, sorting and exit from the Golgi, membrane trafficking in polarized cells, neuronal membrane trafficking and its involvement in axon/dendrite formation and neurodegeneration and the endolysosomal system.
The main goal of this EMBO Workshop is to consolidate this type of events in the region while providing the members of the Latin-American scientific community, especially young individuals working on membrane trafficking, with a regional, focused and timely scientific event where they will be able to show their work and actively interact with international leading scientists working in the field.
